1:00-3:00 p.m. Art Workshop:  Community, Cubed.  Create a depiction of your current community on a flat plane and, using cuts and folds, transform it into a cube.  Stack your cubes alongside of others to create a three-dimensional panorama of the communities we co-exist in!  Based on the work of Jaime Avila.

2:00 -3:00 Docent Tours of Changing the Focus:  Latin American Photography (1990-2005)

Interlogues- Photography in L.A.

Join the local curators and photographers as we discuss issues related to producing photographs in and about Los Angeles.

Sunday, April 11th:  The day’s workshop is “The Irony of Advertisement.” 

Utilizing collage and text, particpants will “sell” anything from ideas to places.  The workshop is based on the work of Jonathan Harker who is in our Changing the Focus exhibit.  The art workshop is from 1-3pm in the Art Studio.

Docent tours of Changing the Focus:  Latin American Photography (1990-2005)  are from 2-3pm.

Buen Provecho: Puerto Rican-style Arroz con Gandules 

Saturday, April 17th:

 

Arroz con Gandules (Rice with Pigeon Peas) is a delicious mix of yellow rice, pigeon peas, a variety of meats, olives and capers– cooked in vegetable herb sauce known as sofrito.  Learn the secret of creating your own tasty sofrito with Puerto Rico’s national dish. 

The cooking workshop is from 11:00am to 1:00pm and involves both a demonstration and a tasting.  Participants get to interact with and have their questions answered directly by Augusto Coen-Brown, the owner and chef at Mofongos Restaurant in Los Angeles.  Space is limited so RSVP today!

Join Venezuelan artist Nelson Garrido through an irreverant afternoon of humor, iconography and aesthetics.  Garrido, who is featured in Changing the Focus:  Latin American Photography 1990-2005 will work one-on-one with participants as they produce a work of art.    *Limit:  25 participants

1-3pm  Art Workshop:  “Object Drawings.”

Use a variety of household objects, liquids, and food to create a reproduction of a popular image.  Based on the work by Vik Muniz in Changing the Focus.

2-3:30pm  Roundtable Discussion:  Changing the Focus:  Latin American Photography 1990-2005.  Join curator Idurre Alonso along with some of the featured artists in the exhibition for a discussion about the exhibition.
